The highest speed that feels safe, which often may be slightly, or slightly more than that over the speed limit....

Slower than I used to, I maintain a SAFE but faster speed. I take driving seriously, when behind the wheel it is JOB ONE over ALL distractions. In my environment, I am among the faster vehicle, but often NOT the fastest, higher speeds are common on my daily drive.

I travel with the flow of traffic which is slightly faster than the speed limit. Unfortunately is you don't keep up with traffic now a days you will have someone in your trunk.

Recently, I've been driving at no more than posted speed limit for less gas consumption. I've noticed the improvement.

I drive the speed limit or a little less so that I will not get into an accident. There are a lot of people in a hurry who do not care about causing an accident.

I drive about 10% faster than the limit. For example, if limit is 70, I go about 77 or 78. This does not seem to bother the cops.

A little over probably 2 - 5 mph depending on traffic. Normally set cruise control also on the open highway.

From 2 mph under the posted speed limit to 1 mph over the limit. This is
when I use cruise control. When not I usually get carried away with higher speeds. This is why I do use cruise as often as possible...

Some of the answers overlap. I find the most efficient reasonable speed IS usually slightly over the speed limit, and is generally with the flow of traffic.

And apparently all those really slow people that get in my way (well below the speed limit) didn't participate in this poll.

Slightly faster than the speed limit.
Since I moved here to the Chicago area going with the flow means going 20 miles over the speed limit on the tollways. I always stay to right and let them zoom by. I can get up to 10 miles over and still be the slowest car on the road.

Generally on the highway I go with the flow of traffic, but in town and on back roads i go 3 to 5 over the speed limit. I've been told that a ticket under 5 or under would be thrown out in court, is this true?

On the interstate generally 5 miles miles over the speed limit, but watch out for the speed demons from Georgia coming out of Chattanooga, they usually run up towards 90 mph. Do not know what there big hurry is. On highways usually the speed limit because of all of the local towns around.

The exact speed limit! If everybody drove the speed limit there would be a glut of oil available thus cheaper fuel prices. C'mon, are you in that big of a hurry to get to your destination (ie:work) so you can stand around and have a cup of coffee? If so leave home 2 to 5 minutes earlier.

What is "open road"? Well, I suppose that means expressway driving. OK, keep it reasonable; say, 5mph above posted limit and use cruise control.

SLIGHTLY FASTER THAN THE SPEED LIMIT AS LONG AS TRAFFIC IS RUNNING SMOOTH, USUALLY THE GENERAL FLOW OF TRAFFIC IS SLIGHTLY OVER THE SPEED LIMIT.

TOO FAST OR TOO SLOW DRIVERS CAN BE A GREAT HAZARD ON THE ROADS.

JUST GO WITH A REASONABLE FLOW AND CONSCIOUSLY BE AWARE OF TRAFFIC AHEAD OF YOU AND TRAFFIC BEHIND YOU I FEEL IS SAFE FOR ALL.

Traveling around the country, I drive with the 'flow.' Different areas have different limits on how much over the speed limit is allowable before stopping. I assume the locals know what that is and I try to blend in. Didn't work in DC where I got caught with a traffic camera.
