Last year my husband had to swerve over to avoid a "crotch rocket" flying up behind us in our lane. Two tires (still on the edge of the road) hit a 17 inch deep crevasse where the asphalt had eroded away at the edge. I work for the City of Henderson. We filed pictures, estimates from the tire shop (two tires had busted belts and one rim was dented) to the City. Result: Thank you for reporting the problem. No damages can be covered because the City was unaware the problem existed. So basically we "saved" the next victim but we were out $750 to repair our car.

By the way, they simply cold-patched the hole and the edges are still eroding.

This topic would likely be better placed in the local Las Vegas discussion category. Where it is now, in the national discussion category, it will be read primarily by members across the U.S. and Canada who aren't familiar with where or what the Kelso Dunes in Henderson, Nevada are. On the other hand, if you're telling people in your local discussion category, they might be able to avoid the area.
